MapleStory Dev Blog – A new character?!

Some of you have seen MapleStory’s new Developer Blog, which can be found here. Mostly it talked about stuff such as the recent downtime and the Alliance Eternal Patches, as written by GM Michael (No relation to me, though I’d love to work for them).

One little tiny tidbit did catch my eye though…

Summer is almost here, and we have so much in store for new and long-time MapleStory fans. Early May brings our Seventh Anniversary celebration. We’ll be providing details soon, but we can say that this is one anniversary party you won’t want to miss. Later in the same month will be a special treat for players who are long-time fans. As we move into June, we’ll be ramping up towards our big summer content release. Not just one but two new characters will soon be joining the MapleStory cast. This more or less confirms a few things I’ve been guessing at, some in my favor, some in, well, less so.

First of all, GMS broke the Alliance Patch Series differently than KMS. The last three patches we’ve had, Alliance Rising, Unbound, and Eternal, were the forerunners to the Beginning of the Counterattack patch in KMS, which in turn led to Phantom and Aswan. GMS is pitching them separately, with the Thief/Pirate revamps, Phantom, and Aswan, presumably, coming after.

Second, this will be in the Summer patch, not as part of the Anniversary patch. Oh well.

Third, and this is most interesting, “we’re also preparing a brand new hero that will be exclusive to Global MapleStory“. 

I have no clue what to say. Other than, thankyounexonohmygoshyaynessholypomegranitethisiswhativealwayswanted. 

Ahem. Anyway, this is very, very, odd. GMS rarely does exclusive content, and rarely is it anything as complex as a class. First of all, I’d guess that it will not be a class that fits in with the established classes, so probably not the Pirate Hero, or the Thief Resistance class. Also, it’s probably not Mikhail. I hope. Second, I’d guess that it will probably be released to KMS, at some point. Probably not immediately, but still.

Either way, we should also be looking forward to some new, exciting events for the anniversary! I’m looking forward to my “Special Treat”. Do I get a date with Hime?
